A Family Vacation That Renews

When it is time to renew my drivers license, it means that another 4 years have gone by and it is time to touch base with the DMV. My information may have changed in those 4 years: I am wearing glasses now (I know, old lady problems!!) and do not even ask me if my weight has changed! Then, I’m set again until I need to renew my license again. 



Renewal: revitalization of something, restore, refresh, rebirth, repair,
recharge, new birth, new beginning, reinvigorate, reawakening, new start


Renewals mean that we need to assess how things are going and see what needs to be improved. Our body, mind and spirit need this, too. That’s why our family takes at least one vacation each year. We need to refresh ourselves. We need to step away from the stress. We want new experiences. We want to spend quality time with each other. We want to reset our minds, strengthen our bodies and restore our souls.

When we traveled again in 2021, after all of the stress, I was hoping for exactly that - a jumpstart to a new, fresh chapter for our family. In my true problem-solving way, I began to research. I looked up fancy vacations that incorporate wellness. I wanted to add these amazing elements into our trip, but do-it-yourself style. 


Wellness Tourism Association states that wellness travel is travel that

allows the traveler to maintain, enhance or kick-start a healthy lifestyle and support or increase one’s sense of well-being. 


When I became a Certified Health Coach at the
Dr. Sears Wellness Institute, he taught that wellness consisted of LEAN ~ Lifestyle choices, Exercise, Attitude and Nutrition. These are so important for our body and mind to strengthen. They are choices we make throughout the day and you will make throughout your trip.


This gave me a great foundation to build my own well-being model towards a renewed self and deeply connected family. As a Christian Catholic, I knew that my faith and spirituality needed to be added in order for my family to have long-lasting well-being. I love how vacation gives us new scenery, so I wanted to add an appreciation for nature. Lastly, if we are together on this family getaway, I want to connect us more securely.

Love with all of those around you! As you learn to love yourself and God more deeply, you will be able to connect to each of your loved ones more deeply. You make choices on how to communicate, listen, give affection and pay attention to those that you care about most.

Be curious and appreciate the beauty of nature around you. As you travel, you have an amazing opportunity to explore the outdoors. God’s masterpiece, seen in the tiny creatures, the fresh air and sunshine all will renew your spirit. 


W ~ Wellness Choices 

The four areas of Dr. Sears’ Wellness model, LEAN - lifestyle, exercise, attitude and nutrition. With these core wellness choices you can make daily lifestyle choices in sleep and healthy living. As you walk, bike or swim on the vacation, you are moving your body and improving your physical well-being, while relieving your stress. The attitude that you have is the lens that you look through and how you respond. The nutritional food, vitamins and water intake choices that you make are all important. On this trip, you have the opportunity to fill up with great, healthy choices that clear your mind, decrease your pain and be in a good mood.
